Successful Start for the Olympic Qualification Process

For the past two months we have begun our qualification process for the Road to Rio. Kerri and April have been AWESOME and working hard each and every day. In the sand, in the gym, and taking the "off" days at the right time. We started off in Rio in early March. Came out strong right out of the gate, we brought home the Gold at the Rio Grand Slam and a Silver at the Vitoria Open.

We came back home to continue to prepare knowing our next stop would be two tournaments in China. I could not attend the China trip due to conflicts with the Pepperdine Beach team. With that said, Kerri and April took home the Bronze medal at the Xiamen Open. Continuing on to Fuzhou Open where they battled hard to come out on top, bringing home the Gold. I must say, what a great start to the 2016 season...earning a spot on the podium at each tournament. Go USA!

Like I said above, while they were in China battling hard, the Pepperdine Beach team was preparing at Zuma for the WCC Championships. We traveled down to Santa Monica and took on the other schools in our conference. We left Santa Monica on Saturday as the WCC Champions! The team played well but have already shifted our focus back to training so that we can be prepared for Alabama. We leave for Alabama Wednesday, where we will compete to hopefully bring home another National Championship to Pepperdine. We start the tournament against the University of Arizona... Go Waves!

Lots to look forward to in the coming weeks! Kerri and April will get back on the sand here in the United States and will play in the AVP Huntington this weekend. Pepperdine will be off to Alabama this week, and in exactly 10 days Antonio and the rest of the family and friends will be flying here to celebrate Syd and I getting married. May will be a good month :)

More updates to come soon...

The Road to Rio has officially begun!

So sorry. It has been WAY too long since I have written. I noticed that my last blog was in October, right when I started off season for both Pepperdine and Kerri/April. But, now it is February and we are back at it :) Lots to tell you since we leave for Brazil in just 3 weeks!

So... Kerri and April are back in action, TOGETHER! Kerri had surgery during the off-season, did her physical therapy, rehabs daily while April continues to work her butt off in the gym and prepare physically and mentally. In January the girls stepped foot on the sand together and since then we have only been moving forward. Training has been great, especially with the new addition to our coaching staff, Gustavo. Gustavo moved to the South Bay from San Diego and is now coaching with both Kerri and April and Pepperdine.

PRACTICE...

PRACTICE...

The girls have been working hard! Each week we have a couple days where we do individual practices and then a few practices a week where we meet as a team. I must say that as of today, I am very happy with the progress we have made in just one month! We leave for Brazil at the beginning of March, ready to play in as many tournaments necessary to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.

On a different note, the Pepperdine Beach team has been training hard and we are ready to kick off the season on March 5th at Zuma Beach vs UCLA, USC, Hawaii and Long Beach State! Preparing in the gym, in the sand, and bonding together as a team with our eyes on one prize, the national championship in May.

Lastly, for the last month an a half, Antonio was here! We had such a great time together- I know he will soon be here forever. This trip was filled with family, friends, school, LA Kings, lots of hockey practice, and learning how to ride a bike! An unforgettable trip! Always hard to say good bye but this year I will see him multiple times due to traveling to Brazil, getting Married, Olympics, and then christmas will be spent in the USA!

Thats all for now, I will check in again soon :)

GO USA!
